Description
Grantlas helps small US nonprofits and grant writers find foundations and federal grants that fit their organization, and keep track of the ones they pursue. Connect your Grantlas account to: - Search private, family, community and corporate foundations by state, cause, assets and whether they accept unsolicited applications, and search federal opportunities from grants.gov by agency, eligibility, funding and deadline. - See a fit for your organization with a one-line reason on every result, and read full funder profiles: giving areas, how and when to apply, giving by year and past grantees from 990-PF filings. - Save funders and grants, add them to your tracker, move them through your pipeline, edit notes, deadlines and amounts, and turn deadline reminders on or off. - Ask what's new, what's due in the next 30 days, and what's missing from your organization's profile. Every funder, grant and search links back to the same page in Grantlas. Changes that remove or overwrite your data are confirmed with you first. Requires a Grantlas account.

Adds a task to one tracked funder (foundation or other grantmaker) or grant in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as the drawer's Add task. A task with a due date gets reminder emails, like deadlines. In a team it is assigned to the item's owner unless an assignee is given. The reply gives the task's id (tsk_…). A report deadline (kind "report") is for a report owed to a funder on a won grant; it needs a due date and can repeat.
add_task
Adds grants the connected organization already won or lost (its record from before Grantlas) to the Closed tab of its Grantlas tracker, 1–25 in one call; each row is reported as added, already_added, invalid or limit. Before calling: find each funder with search_funders (its name as keyword, name_only: true), show the user one table (Funder · Result · Amount · Decided · In Grantlas) and wait for a yes; then call once with every confirmed row. Pass funder_id only for a match the user confirmed. Dates: "last year" = the previous calendar year as "YYYY"; "in 2023" = "2023"; "in March" = the most recent past March as "YYYY-MM"; "FY2024" = "2024" (say so); a full date = "YYYY-MM-DD". Never invent a day; tell the user how you read a relative date. A multi-year award is one row per year. An exact repeat (same funder, year, result and amount) comes back already_added: add it with allow_duplicate only if the user says it is a separate award. For a spreadsheet or list of more than about 25 grants, don't split it into calls: tell the user to use Import a spreadsheet at https://grantlas.com/pipeline/import, which also takes open and submitted grants and can be undone for 7 days.
add_past_grants
Changes the named "Never show me" rules of the connected organization in Grantlas, through the same save as Settings → Preferences; rules not given stay as they are. Agencies are added to or removed from the hidden-agency list by their grants.gov names; a name that isn't a grants.gov agency is left out and reported. Reports which rules changed as stored and which already had the given value. Existing fits are not affected.
update_exclusion_rules
Deletes one note from a tracked item in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as Delete on the Notes tab. Only the person who wrote a note can delete it; the account owner can also delete the Earlier note and a former member's note. There is no undo here, so the reply gives the text it held.
delete_note
Deletes one of the connected organization's saved searches in Grantlas, for everyone in the organization, and stops its email alerts. The funders and grants it found are not affected.
delete_saved_search
Deletes one task from the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as the drawer's Delete task. The reply gives what it held, since there is no undo here. To finish a task, use complete_task instead.
delete_task
Changes the text of one note on a tracked item in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as Edit on the Notes tab. It keeps its place and its date. Only the person who wrote a note can change it; the account owner can also edit the Earlier note. The reply gives the new and previous text.
edit_note
Changes the title, due date, assignee, kind or report type of one task in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as editing it in the drawer. Only the fields given change. The reply gives each changed field's new and previous value.
edit_task
Changes the deadline, amount requested, amount awarded (a won item only), decided date (a won or not won item only), submitted date, owner or archived state of one tracked funder (foundation or other grantmaker) or grant in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, or adds a note, the same as editing it on the Tracker. Only the fields given change. Archiving takes the item out of the Tracker's lists, counts, reminders and calendar and keeps its history; archived false brings it back in the stage it had. notes and add_note both add one note, written by you: the notes are a dated log (see list_notes; change or remove one with edit_note or delete_note). The reply gives each changed field's new and previous value. submitted_on is the day the application was submitted; a move into a submitted stage records today when it has none, so change it only when the user gives another day. To record a win or a loss, use record_outcome.
edit_tracked
Full Grantlas profiles for 1–10 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) in one call: location, assets, giving areas, how and when to apply, award restrictions, officers, summary, giving by year, the fit and reason for the connected organization, red flags, saved/tracked flags and a Grantlas link. Ids that aren't in Grantlas are listed as not found; the rest still return. Past grantees come from get_funder_grantees. A result without a fit says nothing about the match. While profile sharing is off, results carry the fit and label but not the reason, and no red flags or eligibility reasoning.
get_funder
Organizations one funder (a foundation or other grantmaker) has given to, from its IRS filings (990-PF, or a public charity's Schedule I), 25 per page: total given, number of grants, years, the latest grant's purpose, and whether each is a repeat or new grantee. Filters and sorts like the grantee list on the funder's Grantlas page.
get_funder_grantees
Full details for 1–10 government grant opportunities (federal and California) in one call: agency, source and its link, status (open, forecasted or closed) with status_label in words, opportunity number, funding range, deadline (for a forecasted grant, which is not open yet, the expected close date, repeated as expected_deadline), eligible applicant types, eligibility requirements and description, the fit and reason for the connected organization, whether the organization looks eligible, saved/tracked flags and a Grantlas link. Ids that aren't in Grantlas are listed as not found; the rest still return. A result without a fit says nothing about the match. While profile sharing is off, results carry the fit and label but not the reason, and no red flags or eligibility reasoning.
get_grant
The report the Create report screen in Grantlas shows for the connected organization, as data you can read and summarize: grant results (decided, won, not won, win rate, amounts awarded and requested), applications waiting for a decision, the results lists, and, for a client or internal report, the open applications by when they're due and the open tasks. audience: board (the default for a nonprofit), client (what a consultant sends a client; Client reports come with Pro or Agency, for consultant accounts) or internal (the team's own status report). period: this_fiscal_year (the default), last_fiscal_year or all_time. include_not_won, include_tasks, include_notes, include_fit and include_reports switch those parts on or off (Fit is left out unless include_fit is true). Only reads: it changes nothing and sends nothing. Lists are capped at 300 rows, each with a count of the rest; the reply carries a link to the report in Grantlas and to its PDF, and the spreadsheet there has every row. It also returns the report's existing share link (share_link) if one has been made in Grantlas; it never makes or revokes one.
grant_report
The connected organization's grant results from its Grantlas Tracker, as on Reports: grants decided, won and not won, the win rate (shown from 3 decided, always with its counts), amounts awarded and requested (an amount that wasn't recorded is counted as missing, never as $0), applications pending today, applications submitted, results by year and by funder (top 10, repeat funders marked), with links to Reports and the board report. period: this_fiscal_year (the default, by the organization's fiscal year), last_fiscal_year or all_time; or from and to (YYYY-MM-DD) for other dates. With all_clients: true, every client (organization) in the account at once, in calendar years, each named (Pro or Agency plan, two or more clients). For one organization it also returns the board report's existing share link (share_link) if one has been made in Grantlas; it never makes or revokes one. reports_due: Open report deadlines as of today: due in 0–90 days, overdue, and how many of those are on grants not marked won.
grant_performance
Lists the funders (foundations and other grantmakers) and grants the connected organization has hidden as not a fit, newest first — the same list as Settings → Preferences in Grantlas, up to 100 of each — with totals per type and a link to that page.
list_hidden
Hides 1–25 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants for the connected organization, the same as the app's Not a fit button: they are left out of searches, alerts and Home from then on. Reports each one as hidden, already hidden or not found. Saved and tracked items are not affected; unhide brings them back.
hide
Lists what happened to one tracked funder (foundation or other grantmaker) or grant in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, newest first, the same as its History tab in the app: when it was added, each stage move, the amount awarded, owner changes, tasks done, archived and restored, with who did it (in a team), whether it was through Claude, ChatGPT or the API, and the day. Notes are not here (see list_notes).
stage_history
Marks 1–25 tasks done in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as checking them off in the app; done: false reopens them. A done task stops its reminders. Reports each one as done, reopened, already that way, or not found.
complete_task
Moves 1–25 tracked funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants to one stage of the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as the Tracker's stage control, and reports each one as moved (from which stage), already at that stage, not moved (it changed meanwhile; still at its stage), not tracked or not found. The stage is one of this organization's own, by name or key (see list_stages). Only the stage changes; notes, deadline, amount and reminders stay as they are, and an archived item stays archived. An item that isn't tracked is left untracked. To record a win with the amount awarded, or a loss, use record_outcome.
move_stage
The connected organization's "Never show me" rules in Grantlas (Settings → Preferences): which funders (foundations and other grantmakers) and grants are always left out of searches, alerts and Home. Field names match update_exclusion_rules.
get_exclusion_rules
Lists the notes on one tracked funder (foundation or other grantmaker) or grant in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, newest first, the same as the Notes tab in the app. Each note carries its id (ntn_…), its date and its text; in a team, also who wrote it. The Earlier note (text from before notes were a log) comes last. Add a note with edit_tracked (notes or add_note); change or remove one with edit_note or delete_note.
list_notes
Lists the open tasks on the connected organization's tracked funders (foundations and other grantmakers) and grants in Grantlas, grouped Overdue, Today, Next 7 days, Later and No due date, soonest first — the same as the app's Tasks page. Each task carries its id (tsk_…), title, due date and the item it belongs to. In a team, only tasks assigned to you unless assigned is "everyone", and each task names who it is assigned to. With all_clients: true, every client (organization) in the account at once, each line naming it. Report deadlines are grouped first under reports_due.
list_tasks
The connected organization's Grantlas profile, which fits are judged against, which fields analysis still needs, how complete it is for matching, and the missing fields that would most improve matches, with why. Field names match update_org_profile. fiscal_year_start_month is null when not set (Reports then use January).
get_org_profile
The organizations in the Grantlas account (a consultant's clients), each with its nickname and profile sharing, and which one tools currently use.
list_organizations
Lists this connection's recent funder and grant searches for the organization, newest first, each with its filters in words, the page reached, the result count, when it was last used, a resume cursor that continues where the user left off (pass it as cursor to search_funders or search_grants) and a link to the same search in Grantlas.
recent_searches
Records that one tracked funder (foundation or other grantmaker) or grant in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker was won or not won, the same as moving it to a Won or Not won stage in the app and entering the amount awarded. If it isn't already in a stage of that type, it moves to the first one (or to the stage given, by name or key; see list_stages). amount_awarded is for a win only; decided_on sets when it was decided. An archived item stays archived. Repeating the call changes nothing.
record_outcome
Removes a tag from saved or tracked funders and grants. The tag itself stays for other items; deleting a tag is Tracker setup in Grantlas.
untag
Removes 1–25 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants from the connected organization's saved list in Grantlas in one call, and reports each one as removed, not saved or not found. The tracker is not affected.
unsave
Removes 1–25 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants from the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as the Tracker's Remove, and reports each one as removed — with the stage, deadline, amount, its notes (how many) and its open tasks, all of which go with it, since there is no undo here — wasn't tracked, or not found. The saved list is not affected. A grant the organization added itself (a past grant, or one added by link or by hand) is deleted from Grantlas instead, the same as the Tracker's Delete grant: it is reported as deleted and is gone from searches, the saved list and the tracker for good.
untrack
Saves a funder (foundation and other grantmaker) or government grant search to the connected organization's Saved searches in Grantlas, the same as the search page's Save search. Give either the cursor of a search just run (next_cursor or resume_cursor), or kind plus the same filters search_funders or search_grants take. If the same search is already saved under another name, nothing changes and the reply gives its current name; call again with rename: true to rename it. alerts turns on email alerts for new matches (grant searches only).
save_search
Adds 1–25 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants to the connected organization's saved list in Grantlas in one call, the same as the app's Save button, and reports each one as saved, already saved or not found. Saving something already saved changes nothing.
save
Lists what save has added to the connected organization's saved list in Grantlas — funders (foundations and other grantmakers) and/or grants, 25 per page, most recently saved first. Each item carries its saved date, a fit for the connected organization, whether it's also tracked, and a Grantlas link. The response also carries the total saved count for each kind and a link to the saved list in Grantlas. Each item carries its tags; tag lists only items with that tag (see list_fields). A result without a fit says nothing about the match. While profile sharing is off, results carry the fit and label but not the reason, and no red flags or eligibility reasoning.
list_saved
Lists the connected organization's saved searches in Grantlas, newest first — the same list as Settings → Saved searches. Each has its id, name, kind, filters in plain words, whether email alerts are on (grant searches), a Grantlas link, and a cursor that runs it: pass it to search_funders or search_grants as the cursor.
list_saved_searches
Searches funders in Grantlas — private foundations (family foundations among them), community foundations, corporate foundations and other grantmakers — by structured filters. To find one funder the user named (for add_past_grants), pass its name as keyword with name_only: true. Each result has name, state, assets, giving areas, whether it accepts unsolicited applications, a fit with a one-line reason for the connected organization, saved/tracked flags and a Grantlas link. Returns the total match count, page N of M, a next_cursor for the next page and a link to the same search in Grantlas. With peers_only, only funders that have funded organizations similar to the connected one. The organization's hidden and excluded funders are left out. Counting by state or cause: the same search with that filter and page_size 1 gives the total. Full profiles come from get_funder, several at once. Each search is kept in your recent searches (see recent_searches). A result without a fit says nothing about the match. While profile sharing is off, results carry the fit and label but not the reason, and no red flags or eligibility reasoning.
search_funders
Searches grant opportunities in Grantlas (federal from grants.gov, California state grants from grants.ca.gov, the organization's own added links marked "(your link)", and funder websites once published) by structured filters. California grants are included only for an organization in California unless source asks for them. A forecasted grant is not open yet; its deadline is the expected close date. Each result has title, agency, source, status, funding range, deadline, a fit with a one-line reason for the connected organization, saved/tracked flags and a Grantlas link. Returns the total, page N of M, a next_cursor and a link to the same search in Grantlas. The organization's hidden and excluded grants are left out. Full details and the eligibility check come from get_grant, several at once. Every result carries listing_type. With listing_type foundation_request it lists foundations whose IRS filing says they accept grant requests instead: not open calls, deadline always null. Each search is kept in your recent searches (see recent_searches). A result without a fit says nothing about the match. While profile sharing is off, results carry the fit and label but not the reason, and no red flags or eligibility reasoning.
search_grants
Sets or clears an organization's short name. Replacing an existing nickname returns needs_confirmation unless replace is true.
set_nickname
Sets or clears (value null) one of the organization's own fields on one tracked item (fields are only on tracker items, not saved-only ones). Money: whole dollars. Date: "YYYY-MM-DD". Choice: one of the field's choices by name (see list_fields); a removed choice can't be set, so offer the valid ones. Never create fields or choices: only someone who can change Tracker setup can, in Grantlas.
set_field
Makes the named organization the one tools use, by name, nickname or id.
switch_organization
Adds a tag (a label like “Capital campaign”) to saved or tracked funders and grants in the connected organization. Reuse an existing tag whose name matches ignoring case; only a name with no match creates a new tag, and when that happens tell the user you created it. Never use this to rename, merge or delete tags, or to create fields or choices: that is Tracker setup in Grantlas. See list_fields for the tags.
tag
Lists the account's tags (with how many of this organization's saved or tracked items have each) and its own fields: type, and for Choice fields the choices (removed ones marked).
list_fields
Adds 1–25 funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants to the connected organization's tracker in Grantlas in one call, at the first In progress stage (see list_stages), the same as the app's Track button, and reports each one as tracked, already tracked, restored or not found. Tracking something already tracked leaves its stage and notes as they are; tracking an archived item brings it back, in the stage it had.
track
Lists the connected organization's tracker items in Grantlas, 25 per page, soonest deadline first (items with no deadline last) — the same items and grouping as the app's Tracker page. Each item carries its stage, deadline, amount requested when one was entered, when it was last updated and a Grantlas link. Each also carries a fit object (status, and for an analyzed item its number, label and stale flag) plus fit_score (the organization's fit, 0 to 100) and fit_stale (true when the organization's profile changed since it was analyzed); fit_score is null and fit_stale false until it is analyzed. The response also carries counts of tracked items per stage and a link to the Tracker in Grantlas. Without a stage filter, only open items (in-progress and submitted stages) are listed, matching the Tracker's default view; pass stage "closed" for won and not won items together, or one of this organization's stages by name or key (see list_stages). Archived items are left out unless archived is true, which lists only them. It ends with a pipeline summary: items and total amount requested per stage, then how many decided items were won and the total awarded, all time, archived items included. In a team, each item names its owner. Every item carries item_id (trk_…), which every item tool takes. A past grant (one the organization won or lost before Grantlas, added with add_past_grants) is type "past_grant": it has no fit, its link opens it in the Tracker, and it carries its decided date and amount awarded. Each item also carries its tags and the organization's own fields (see list_fields; null when empty). tag and field narrow the list (both together: items with both); the counts and the pipeline summary stay the whole tracker's.
list_tracked
Lists the stages of the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, in order: each one's name, its key and its type (in_progress, submitted, won or not_won). Every organization in an account shares its stages, and they can be renamed, added or removed in the app (Settings → Tracker setup), so read them here rather than assuming names. move_stage, list_tracked and record_outcome take a stage by name or key. Deadline reminders go out only in in-progress stages; submitted stages still count as open; won and not won stages are closed.
list_stages
Turns email alerts for new matches on or off for one of the connected organization's saved grant searches in Grantlas, the same as Settings → Saved searches. Funder searches don't have alerts.
set_search_alerts
Turns deadline reminder emails off, or back on, for 1–25 tracked funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants in the connected organization's Grantlas tracker, the same as the Tracker's reminder control. On means the account's default schedule (Settings → Notifications); an item with its own reminder days keeps them. Reminders go out for items with a deadline in an in-progress stage (see list_stages); submitted, won, not won and archived items get none, so an archived item can't be turned on (bring it back first with edit_tracked archived false).
set_reminders
Brings back 1–25 hidden funders (foundations and other grantmakers) or grants for the connected organization, so they appear in searches, alerts and Home again, and reports each one as back, wasn't hidden or not found.
unhide
Deadlines in the next N days (default 30) for the connected organization in Grantlas, soonest first: tracked funders (foundations and other grantmakers) and grants in open stages (in-progress and submitted stages, see list_stages), with their stage and whether deadline reminders are on, plus saved grants that aren't tracked. Application deadlines on won, not won and archived items are left out. At most 50 are listed; the rest are counted. With all_clients: true, every client (organization) in the account at once, each line naming it. Includes report deadlines (kind "report_due") in any stage; plain tasks are in list_tasks.
upcoming_deadlines
Changes the named fields of the connected organization's Grantlas profile, through the same save as Settings → Organization; fields not given stay as they are. Reports which fields changed as stored, which already had the given value, any service-area codes it couldn't read (left out), whether fits will refresh (only changes that affect matching refresh them), and what analysis still needs. fiscal_year_start_month sets the month its fiscal year starts, for Reports; it never affects matching.
update_org_profile
What's new for the connected organization in Grantlas — the same blocks as the app's Home page: new grant matches that appeared in the last N days (default 7), saved grants closing within 21 days, and the best open grant matches, each grant shown once, with its fit and a Grantlas link. Hidden and excluded grants are left out. Only already-analyzed grants appear in the match blocks.
